In the weeks leading up to Christmas, people usually try and get into the right frame of mind to celebrate Christmas. Seems kind of silly to think that we spend the four weeks of advent getting ready to celebrate just one day. This year I have tried to approach Christmas as a season, not a day. I began thinking about Christmas as our church gospel choir prepared a music presentation before advent.

This presentation gave us the opportunity to meet together once a week and marvel at God's goodness through the music we sang. We enjoyed each other's company during the weeks we practiced and we were blessed by God's presence during the performances. We were thrilled to have our friends, Michel, Fabian & Aliston Lwamba join us for our performances.

This was a great way to prepare for the Christmas season. We talk about Christ coming to earth as a baby to bring peace, joy, love & justice to the world. I know that anytime I witness those virtues in our world, they are not because of our own doing, but because of Him. I have considered this season an opportunity to keep an eye out around me for the evidence that Christ has already come. I have been much more aware of the peace, joy, love & justice that exists around me. He is alive and well in our world, we just need to be paying attention.
Normally, I spend a lot of time looking for that perfect Christmas gift for each person on my list. This year I decided to spend less time on buying gifts for people and instead to spend the time saved with people! (You'd think I'd have thought of this a long time ago. . .) As I have taken the focus off giving and receiving gifts, I have found joy in simple gifts of quality time and encouragement. Here are a few laughs from our Young Adults Christmas Banquet at my church.

I have enjoyed spending time with friends and loved ones and I have been encouraged and restored by them.

(New dancing pics added. . thanks Don!)

I have spent time with God, becoming more aware of his love and goodness in my life. The Christmas season isn't even near over yet and I have already felt wonderfully blessed this season. My eyes have been opened to Christ's undeniable presence in this world. That is something that I can celebrate all year long.
Emmanuel . . . God is with Us.
Merry Christmas everyone!

God Bless Us, Every One!
A good reminder Julia of looking for the blessings around us - in the busyness of the season, it's so good to stop and realize how blessed I am. You are one of those blessings - it really has been great to get to know you this year!

I always feel blessed when a certain person enters your life, that leaves an impact or wave of grace that you will never forget - you are one of those such waves.
